5. A leader of excellence is kind and not quarrelsome or resentful.
II Timothy 2:24 And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel.
To be kind means to be sympathetic, considerate, and understanding to everybody. Make every effort to be kind, rather than hard, to all people. Understand your position of authority as a leader at Free Chapel requires you to never misuse your influence nor be unkind to the people of the church. Be flexible and patient with one another, not allowing yourself to be easily offended.
6. A leader of excellence walks in goodness.
II Peter 1:5 For this reason make every effort to add to your faith goodness…
Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
God is a good God and we have the very nature of God in us. When you walk in goodness you have the desire to bless people and to do good and not harm.
7. A leader of excellence continues to grow in knowledge.
II Peter 1:5 and to goodness, knowledge…
A leader should be constantly growing in the knowledge of God by reading the Word of God daily, and listening to the preaching of the Word.
8. A leader of excellence has self-control.
Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Paul listed self-control as a fruit of the Spirit. Peter said that we must be clear-minded and self-controlled so that we can pray. Peter also said that we must be self-controlled and alert so that we can resist the devil (See Galatians 5:22, I Peter 4:7, I Peter 5 8-9). We must have discipline and self-control to read the Word and pray daily, to resist the devil, to resist temptation, and to walk in the Spirit instead of in the flesh. Many believers have ruined their lives or ministry because of their lack of self-control. Learn to rule your spirit, rather than to let anger, habits or sin control you.
