"As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man." - Proverbs 27:19
What a statement! There is nothing new under the sun. One corrupt heart bears the same image as another, but a sanctified heart bears the image of the heavenly. We all begin life as corrupt individuals; we are all affected and infected by sin. But far too often our culture feels that the outer appearance is a true reflection of the inward man. This is inaccurate. Just as the water reflects the true appearance of the face of a man, so the heart reflects the true nature and character of the man.
So where is your heart?
The Bible says in 1 Samuel 16:7 that man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. So what the Lord sees, more than likely everyone else around you does not see at first. So ask those closest to you, who is it that I am portraying? Because in the end, your heart will not fool those around you; it will be displayed for all to see what you are really all about. The heart will reflect who the man and woman really are! Don't try to fool yourself. What is it that your heart lives for? What consumes your life? Are you living before God with a pure heart? Where is your heart?
"Is there anything like the Word of God when the open book finds open hearts? The prayerful study of the Word is an act of devotion wherein the transforming power of grace is often exercised, changing us into the image of Him of whom the Word is a mirror." - Spurgeon
Looking forward to this Thursday night!

Ok so it's a sunday afternoon and then all of a sudden I get this thought and here it is. For those of you who do not know, my most favorite word ever found in the Bible and dictionary is delight. The way it sounds when it is said is just a beauutiful. Anyway so here it is...
Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart."
According to Webster's Dictionary, the word delight has two different entries with different definitions. When I saw the meanings I also noticed the order they were put into to. As Christians, we put God first or we're supposed to put him first. Here are the definitions:
Entry 1: to please very much; to take great pleasure
Entry 2: great pleasure; something which gives such pleasure
Take a look at the order and then take a look at the verse passage again. Notice that the verse starts off with "Delight yourself..." so it would go with enrty one. This relates to what we give God. This is how you delight in God. We are only here on earth to please God, not people. At the same time, take pleasure in God our Father. Spending time with him on a regular basis. Talking with him; give all yourself to him.
Now go and look at the second half of that verse, "and he will give..." Look at the second entry. This relates to what God will give us as he promised. The deisres of our heart...Our Father takes delight in his children and in return if we delight ourselves in him, he said he would give what we so desire.
I find this so awesome and so profound. Not just how the verse now plays out, but also how the two entries from Webster's were mentioned.
Now it makes sense..."Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart" Psalm 37:4
I really like the idea of the proverb for the day...great idea!!! I'll have to share that with Danial, he'll love it :) Thanks!
